Optimum Physical and Chemical Parameters of Platinized Anode:-

By combining platinum and titanium, dimensional stability is possible. Both metals offer optimal parameters for hard chrome plating. Platinum has a very low specific electrical resistance of just 0.107 Ω×mm2/m. Lead’s value is almost twice as high (0.208 Ω×mm2/m). Titanium’s corrosion resistance is outstanding, however, in the presence of halides, this is reduced. The breakdown voltage for titanium in electrolytes containing chloride, for example, is between 10 and 15 V, depending on the pH value. This is significantly higher with niobium (35 to 50 V) and tantalum (70 to 100 V).

Titanium and tantalum have good electro conductivity, sufficient plasticity to make anodes and equipment and it is high chlorine-resistance. Platinum is a silver-white metal with a very high melting point. Pure platinum is highly soft and has good machinability. Platinum in the pulverized state has good catalytic activity. The advantage that these Titanium Anodes have over the two previous anode types and lead anodes is that the risk of additional toxic or hazardous substances being introduced into the electroplating line is eliminated, eradicating costs that arise from the removal of hazardous substances. They are also environmentally friendly and the fact that the inter-electrode gap remains constant throughout the design life of the anode means that the Platinized Titanium Anodes maintain constant voltage and product quality. Oxygen-evolving Titanium Anodes have lower anodic operating potentials and use of these anodes yields the additional advantage of the ability to re-use the anodes.
