Platinum is the most effective metal for any electro chemical or electrolysis process due to its current conducting property. Platinum being the most expensive material rational utilization of Platinum for the greater benefit ensures economical solution. Platinized Anodes is none but a rational utilization of platinum by coating or plating limited quantity on to titanium to achieve the same result as using platinum metal.
Platinized Titanium anodes can be operated at very high current densities. 75Amps per dm² are typical. All of the current flows from the platinum plated / coated portion of the anode surface. However, if this coating is damaged, current may also flow from the substrate material resulting in its premature failure. The primary limitation of platinized anodes is that the oxide film on the substrate can break down if excessive anode-to-electrolyte voltages are encountered. The practical limit for platinized titanium is 12 volts.
